Immundnz has been awarded an InnovateUK grant to unravel the changing immune environment of human lung cells in #COVID19.
Severity in #COVID19 infection is related to the so-called #cytokinestorm, an excessive production of signalling proteins to immune cells to come to the site of infection. This leads to hyper-inflammation which could eventually kill a patient. In case of a #cytokinestorm in #COVID19, the immune system begins to destroy lung cells and makes breathing difficult.
The Immundnz team is developing a safe experimental model that can be customised to mutated forms of the #COVID19 virus or other viruses in future pandemics, enabling tests of people to predict the progression of an infection into a #cytokinestorm.
Immundnz is proud to be able to contribute in fighting #COVID19.
